My Background
My name is Andrew Gomes, and I am a music education major studying at UMass Amherst, class of 2027. I primarily play classical saxophone, and have taken classes in several different band instruments in order to prepare me for my music education career.
As a middle and high school student, I took private piano lessons. This is where I got my first introduction to advanced music theory and literacy through classical and jazz piano compositions. Although I was lucky enough to have these lessons, they are not as widely accessible as they ought to be — especially for wind and brass instruments. With my knowledge, musical expertise, and experience on various instruments, I aimed to take on the roll myself.
My goal in teaching traveling lessons is to build musicianship in students who otherwise may not have an opportunity. If I had taken private lessons for the saxophone before I came to college, I could have grown at an expedited rate. I strive to offer this for students who are in these shoes, as I have been exactly where they are. Whether it is concert preparation, personal repertoire, music literacy, or anything in between, I’d love to support. Private lessons can help a student advance to a higher level of musicality, and as a future music educator, this is exactly where I want to be.
